What is MTC?
Formed in 2010 as ANU Interhall Productions (IHP), the ANU Musical Theatre Collective (MTC) is theatrical society for students with a passion for theatre. With events, workshops and two theatrical productions taking place each year, it provides an opportunity for students to be exposed to the magic that is theatre.
The largest events on MTC’s calendar are its theatrical productions. They give students the chance to participate in large theatrical productions, whether it is onstage, in the orchestra pit, backstage or behind the scenes. They are an enriching experience, and the skills, relationships and memories gained during each production stay beyond the end of the last performance.
OUR 2026 SEASON
SEMESTER 1
Next To Normal
20-23 May - Kambri Theatre
Next to Normal is a contemporary rock musical that follows a suburban family navigating everyday life while coping with mental illness, grief and the strain these place on relationships. As they try to appear “normal” to the outside world, each family member confronts their own way of surviving, loving, and healing. The show balances dark themes with humour and powerful music to explore how families hold together, and sometimes fall apart in the face of trauma.
SEMESTER 2
High School Musical
21-24 October - Kambri Theatre
High School Musical On Stage follows the students of East High as they return from winter break and navigate the pressures of high school life. Basketball captain Troy Bolton and academically gifted Gabriella Montez form an unexpected friendship after meeting on holiday and discovering a shared love of singing.
When they audition for the school musical, their decision challenges the expectations placed on them by classmates, teammates, and friends. As rivalries emerge and social groups clash, the students are forced to reconsider who they are and whether they should be defined by a single role.
